On June 19, according to renowned insider Woj, the Detroit Pistons have parted ways with head coach Monty Williams. He had only been at the helm for one season.
Woj added that the decision to dismiss Williams was made directly by the Pistons’ owner. The team’s new president will now embark on the search for a new head coach.
Williams had initially signed a six-year deal worth $78.5 million with the Pistons. There are currently five years and $65 million remaining on his contract.
The Pistons finished this season with a record of 14 wins and 68 losses, ranking last in the league. They also endured a franchise-worst 28-game losing streak, which set a new NBA single-season record and tied the Philadelphia 76ers’ all-time longest losing skid (spanning seasons).
