October 31, 2024 — The Toronto Raptors have announced that team core player Scottie Barnes will be out for at least three weeks due to a right orbital fracture.
On Tuesday, during the Raptors’ 125-127 loss to the Denver Nuggets, Barnes was hit in the eye area by Nikola Jokić’s elbow, causing an injury. After his injury, the Nuggets extended the game into overtime and eventually won by two points, securing their first win of the season.
If Barnes only misses three weeks, he could return as early as November 22 for the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. This means he will miss 11 games. The Raptors are set to face the Charlotte Hornets in North Carolina today.
Barnes led the team with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists in this loss, bringing the Raptors’ record to 1-3 this season. Barnes is averaging 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6 assists per game this season. The former Rookie of the Year averaged a career-high 19.9 points and 8.2 rebounds last season and made his first All-Star appearance. At 23 years old, Barnes also signed a five-year rookie extension during the off-season.
