Rockets Show Strong Interest in Butler; Could Be a Perfect Match as He Grew Up in Houston Area

On October 28, it was reported that the Houston Rockets recently reached new rookie contract extensions with Jalen Green and Alperen Şengün. This move likely prevents the Rockets from becoming a team with significant salary cap space in the 2025 offseason. However, this has not deterred the team from pursuing star players. While the Rockets may not be ready to make major moves this season, they are closely monitoring the future of several star players.

According to previous reports, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant is one of the Rockets’ targets. Another name to watch is Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat.

Butler and the Heat did not reach a contract extension this offseason. With a player option for next season, Butler is eligible to become a free agent next summer. He can also choose to exercise his player option and seek a trade. In this scenario, the Rockets could be a team to watch.

Noted sports journalist Marc Stein mentioned in his latest podcast, “The Rockets are increasingly being mentioned by other competitors as a team to watch if the Miami Heat ever decide to explore trade options with Jimmy Butler. Butler grew up in Tomball, Texas, about 30 miles from Houston.”

Rockets head coach Ime Udoka has been looking to bring in more veteran players. Additionally, Butler’s connection to the Houston area could make a return to his hometown appealing as he approaches the latter stages of his career.
