Skyline Lynx Preview: Lynx on a Roll, Dream Looking to Upset

On June 20th, the Minnesota Lynx host the Atlanta Dream in a regular-season WNBA matchup.

The Lynx have been impressive this season with an 11-3 record, placing them third in the league. They are currently on a four-game winning streak, with their last victory against the Wings. Despite a close game through three quarters, they pulled away in the final period, with McBrayer contributing 19 points and 7 assists, and Schiederman scoring 17 points. Their performance offset Collier’s off night of 5-of-17 shooting. Facing the lower-ranked Dream, the Lynx will be aiming for their fifth consecutive win.

The Lynx have excelled on both offense and defense, averaging 86.5 points per game, with their three-point shooting being a key weapon at 10.6 made threes per game with a 40.7% accuracy. Defensively, they concede 76.1 points, demonstrating solid teamwork. Key contributors include Collier, averaging 21.1 points and 10.3 rebounds, McBrayer with her consistent three-point shooting at 17 points, plus Smith, Williams, and Carleton providing steady support, indicating a deep roster.

The Dream have had a mediocre season so far, sitting at 6-6 in sixth place. They’ve struggled recently, winning only two of their last six games, but managed to snap a two-game losing streak by defeating the Sparks. Gray’s 25 points, Charles’ 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Howard’s 16 points were instrumental in that victory. If they maintain this form, they could pose a challenge to the Lynx on the road.

The Dream’s offensive and defensive performances have been average, although their three-point shooting stands out at a 33.9% clip. However, inconsistency has been a problem, as evidenced by losses to bottom-ranked teams like the Mystics and Fever amidst their recent stretch. Surprisingly, the Dream have performed well on the road, averaging 84.6 points and holding a 3-2 away record. The Lynx cannot afford to underestimate them.

This is the second meeting between the teams this season, with the Lynx prevailing 92-79 in their previous encounter, thanks in part to McBrayer’s 31-point outing and a team total of 13 threes. In this upcoming contest, three-point shooting will again be crucial, and it remains to be seen if the Dream can produce an upset.
