Torres replied with a hook shot for two points, and after Clarivel’s three-pointer, Edwards made a buzzer-beating layup.
At the end of the first quarter, Puerto Rico led the USA with 29-25.
In the second quarter, Adebayo forced a foul inside, scoring one out of two free throws. Davis executed a powerful slam dunk, followed by Durant’s three-pointer from beyond the arc, helping the USA regain the lead. Puerto Rico called a timeout, and upon returning, Alvarado responded with a layup. Edwards nailed another corner three-pointer, and Waters was fouled, scoring both free throws. Edwards and Durant were on fire, with Romero completing a fast-break dunk to narrow the gap. James passed to Embiid for a layup, followed by assisting Curry for a three-pointer. Puerto Rico struggled with their shots, with Curry’s missed layup followed by James’ slam dunk for two points. Ford finally broke the scoring drought with a dunk in the paint, and James added another two points with a powerful slam dunk.
At halftime, the USA led Puerto Rico with 64-45.
