At 10 AM on October 29th, the NBA regular season will feature a highly anticipated matchup as the Suns host the Lakers.
The Lakers have had a strong start to their season, defeating the Timberwolves, Suns, and Kings in succession, securing a 3-game winning streak and leading the Western Conference temporarily. Such a dominant start has not been seen in a long time, and new head coach JJ Redick’s coaching career has started perfectly. In the first three games, the Lakers averaged 121.3 points, ranking second in the West, showcasing a formidable offensive firepower.
Davis has started the season with MVP-level performances, averaging 34 points, 11 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, and 1.7 steals, leading the team in all four categories. He has scored over 30 points in each of the first three games, demonstrating a dominant presence. James averages 23 points, 7.3 assists, and 7.7 rebounds, and his performance in clutch moments remains as impactful as ever. Reeves averages 18 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Hachimura and Russell also average double-digit scoring. With the addition of rookies Knack, Hayes, Vincent, and others, Redick’s transformation of the team is evident, making the current Lakers a formidable force.
The Suns defeated the Mavericks in their last game, bringing their record to 2-1, with an average of 115.3 points scored and 112.7 points allowed per game. From the first three games, it is clear that new head coach Mike Budenholzer has not brought significant changes to the team. Their overtime win against the Clippers was partly due to luck, and they suffered a 22-point comeback loss to the Lakers. The Big Three have struggled overall.
Durant remains the most consistent performer for the Suns, averaging 28.7 points and 6.7 rebounds, with two 30+ point games. He is still reliable in crucial moments. Booker and Beal have been inconsistent, with Booker averaging 19.7 points and 5 assists, and Beal averaging 19.5 points and 5 assists. Nurkic and Terence Jones also average double-digit scoring, and with the contributions of Allen, Dunn, Morris, O’Neal, and others, the Suns’ roster depth has improved compared to last season.
The two teams faced each other just four days ago, with the Lakers staging a 22-point comeback at home to win 123-116. In that game, Davis dominated the paint with 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, while James contributed 21 points and 8 assists in the second half, and Reeves had an efficient 26 points. For the Suns, Durant shot 11-of-17 for 30 points, but Booker and Beal both struggled in the second half, leading to their defeat.
The LeBron vs Durant showdown will be staged again, with the Suns aiming for revenge at home. However, facing a confident Lakers team, a victory will not come easily. In terms of injuries, Okogie is out, and Beal, who missed the last game, is questionable. For the Lakers, Vanderbilt and Wood are out.
