On August 30, recently, the Celtics player Tatum spoke in an exclusive interview with The Athletic (TA), discussing topics such as his bench role at the Olympics, the Celtics’ NBA championship, and other issues.
Regarding Criticism
Tatum said, “For a while, one of the most talked-about and debated things was whether or not he is a superstar? Then, is he ready to win a championship now? And then, how can he not participate (in the Olympics)? I think, I just won a championship, it’s the offseason now, maybe it would be better to take a break and not turn on ESPN. But I guess this is part of life; it might be the level I’ve reached in my career right now.”
About This Olympic Experience
Tatum said, “I know that during these Olympics, I haven’t made any jump shots. I don’t know if it’s the law of averages, but the rhythm with Team USA has been odd; you never know when you’re going to get the ball. But it’s part of it. I signed up because I did it before (at the Tokyo Olympics).”
Tatum has achieved significant success both on and off the court this summer. He was selected as the cover athlete for NBA 2K25, his children’s book will be published on September 10, and he signed what is currently the largest contract extension in NBA history.
About His Mindset for the Future
“My mindset is that after the ring night of the new season, we have to put it behind us,” he said. “Last year is last year. We did it. It was a dream come true. We gave it our all. But after ring night, we have to move forward. We must prepare for a second championship.”
