The Timberwolves Return to Christmas Day Game After 7 Years; Last Appearance Was in the 2017-18 Season

Today, renowned reporter Shams announced the NBA’s Christmas Day schedule for the new season (2024-25 season).

Among the teams listed is a long-missed old friend, the Timberwolves, who advanced to the Western Conference Finals last season. They will be challenging the Mavericks, who prevented them from reaching the Finals last season, on Christmas Day.

This marks the Timberwolves’ return to the Christmas Day game after 7 years; their last appearance was back in the distant 2017-18 season, where they defeated the Lakers 121-104, with players like Towns, Wiggins, and Butler in their lineup.

The Timberwolves’ first appearance in a Christmas Day game was just a year before that, in the 2016-17 season, which was known as the “Triple Drip” era in Timberwolves history. Rubio served as the playmaking core, leading three promising young stars (Towns, Wiggins, LaVine). Unfortunately, this talented lineup was dismantled just a year later.
