On July 29th, the Olympic women’s basketball group stage match featured Serbia versus Puerto Rico.
In this game, the Serbian women’s basketball team had a dominant lead for the first three quarters, leading by as much as 20 points at one point. However, in the final quarter, the team suddenly struggled, scoring only two points from field goals throughout the entire quarter. Puerto Rico went on a 19-2 run. In the closing moments of the game, Puerto Rico intentionally fouled to send Serbian player Stančović to the free-throw line. Stančović made one of her two free throws. When time expired, the Puerto Rican women’s basketball team lost to the Serbian team 55-58.
In the fourth quarter, the Serbian women’s basketball team shot 1-for-17 from the field.
