Wang Jian: Talent Reserves for Basketball in China and Japan Are Not on the Same Level; If Cultivation and Development Environments Were Consistent, China's Men's National Team Would Be Far Superior to Japan’s

On July 28th, basketball expert Wang Jian shared insights on the comparison between China and Japan’s men’s national basketball teams on social media. He commented that when we start discussing this issue, it signifies that China’s team has already suffered a complete defeat. With the Olympic Games in full swing, Japan faced off against the World Cup champions, Germany, in an intense match. Despite losing with a score of 77-97, Japan’s performance was acknowledged, sparking discussions about which team is stronger. Below are Wang Jian’s original remarks:

“I’ve never been fond of delving into debates over who between Japan’s and China’s men’s national basketball teams is stronger. The moment you begin pondering such a question, it implies that China’s team has already been thoroughly defeated. Basketball is a sport that heavily relies on talent. The talent reserves between the two countries are simply not comparable. Under consistent cultivation and development environments, it would be reasonable for China to significantly outperform Japan.

“Why do we see once-promising talents, bursting with potential, gradually become ordinary as they progress, ultimately failing to live up to their talent? Why do environments in Japan nurture children who were once deemed unworthy by us into players capable of standing on the world stage? These are the questions we should be reflecting upon.”
