Recently, former five-division world champion “Money” Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 27 KO) told the media that the top fighter in today’s boxing landscape is not Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KO), nor is it Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KO), but rather Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KO).
Mayweather said, “Davis could certainly be in the top ten of the P4P rankings. Canelo did some incredible things, and he even won a world title at 175 pounds. I didn’t think he’d move up to that weight, but he did, and he was the best at the time. However, when it comes to current boxing supremacy, it’s Crawford without a doubt.”
Alvarez has already agreed to a fight with IBF mandatory challenger Cuban William Salas (22-0, 9 KO), scheduled for September. If Crawford successfully defeats Ismail Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KO) for the WBA super featherweight title in August, and Alvarez also prevails over Salas, a potential clash between the two could take place as early as late this year or early next year.
