Recently, promotional czar Bob Arum, who guides the career of current IBF lightweight champion and three-division world titlist Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs), expressed his belief to the media that Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) and Lomachenko will eventually reach an agreement for a highly anticipated showdown before the end of the year.
Said Arum, “As we all know, both fighters want this fight. The teams will sit down and discuss the financial aspects carefully, and I’m very optimistic that the bout will happen. However, no agreements have been reached yet, so there’s nothing concrete to disclose at this point.”
Davis is 29 years old, while Lomachenko is 36, past his prime. Few are backing Lomachenko in such a matchup, but the contest remains eagerly awaited and represents the most significant fight that can be made in the lightweight division currently. Despite being in better form than Lomachenko, Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) doesn’t carry the same market value.
