Recently, officials from the World Boxing Council (WBC) have been contemplating incorporating champions from the WBA, IBF, and WBO into the WBC’s ranking system. Previously, once a boxer claimed a world title from any of these three other organizations, their WBC ranking would be revoked.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán Jr. explained, “The reason the WBC didn’t rank champions from other organizations is that it has its own mission. If we were to include them in the WBC, we would need to consider who could fight for the WBC title. However, we have listed them as champions from other organizations, allowing them to participate in unification bouts, which the WBC has always supported.”
WBC executive, Robert Hines, commented, “Incorporating world champions from other organizations into the WBC rankings has always been my dream. Over the years, I’ve suggested this to Mauricio Sulaimán multiple times, as a way to promote the growth of boxing. We will discuss this matter during our 2024 annual convention.”
