Stevenson: You'll See a Different Me on Sunday

Recently, WBC lightweight champion and three-division world titlist Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) assured the media that, despite Armenian-German Aram Avagyan’s (12-1, 7 KOs) credentials, he will be an entirely different beast this coming Sunday.

Stevenson stated, “Avagyan is a great fighter, but on July 6th, he’ll be facing a different kind of beast. I have a vendetta against everyone now, so it’s going to be an explosive fight. People have been saying I’m wrong, and I’ve proven myself time and time again, but I haven’t received the recognition I deserve. Once again, I’m up against a tough opponent, and we’ll see what unfolds. Even if I defeat Avagyan impressively, people will still criticize me. Everyone says he’s just a pizza delivery guy; they always try to diminish my victories by saying my opponents aren’t good enough. I know that one day I’ll get the chance to prove myself definitively.”

The 27-year-old Stevenson has an unblemished professional record of 21 wins with 10 knockouts, currently ranking second in the BOXREC-135-pound division, only behind Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs). Stevenson claimed the vacant WBC lightweight title in November last year by defeating Santos in a 12-round decision, albeit not in a dominant fashion.
