Today, WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada (44-3, 28 KOs) of Mexico and former world flyweight and super flyweight titlist Jesse Rodriguez (19-0, 12 KOs) of the United States faced off at the weigh-in ahead of their showdown in Phoenix, Arizona.
The two will collide in a 12-round super flyweight championship bout on June 30 (Sunday) with Estrada defending his WBC title at 115 pounds. Both fighters weighed in at 115 pounds, clearing the weight limit without issue.
The 34-year-old Estrada, with a professional record of 44 wins against three losses and 28 knockouts, is currently ranked number one by The Ring magazine at 115 pounds. Standing at 5’4″ with a reach of 5’5″, he has also been a top-ten pound-for-pound fighter in The Ring’s rankings but has since dropped out due to lower fight frequency in recent years.
Estrada has previously held world titles in both the flyweight and super flyweight divisions, defeating the likes of Roman Gonzalez (twice), Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (in a rematch), Cuadras, Viloria, and Segura, earning a reputation as a formidable boxer. However, he has been out of action for 18 months since his trilogy victory over Roman Gonzalez in December 2022, leaving his current form uncertain.
At 24, Jesse Rodriguez boasts an unblemished record of 19 wins with 12 knockouts and is currently ranked number one by BoxRec in the flyweight division and ninth in The Ring’s pound-for-pound rankings. Also standing at 5’4″ but with a reach of 5’7″, Rodriguez has captured world titles in both weight classes. He has defeated Cuadras, knocked out Srisaket in eight rounds, and stopped Edwards in nine, establishing himself early in his career. Rodriguez has maintained a busy schedule, and he is favored in the odds at 1-4.
In the preceding co-feature, former IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards (20-1, 4 KOs) of the UK will take on Mexican boxer Adrian Yung (24-5-1, 5 KOs) in a 12-round contest at flyweight. Both fighters weighed in at 112 pounds, successfully making weight.
Edwards had successfully defended his IBF title four times before losing to Jesse Rodriguez in a unification bout last December in the 112-pound category.
