Recently, former four-division world champion American Roy Jones Jr. (66-9, 47 KOs) told the media that current WBA Lightweight Franchise Champion and three-division world titleholder “Tank” Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) is one of the best boxers in the sport today, alongside Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), who could be ranked first and second respectively.
Roy Jones Jr. said: “Davis is one of the best boxers in the sport today, a top pound-for-pound king. Davis not only has power punches but also excels at grinding out points, something some of the top pound-for-pound boxers can’t do. Davis can do both, always finding ways to defeat his opponents. He consistently does well with his southpaw style, which few others can match in today’s boxing scene. Right now, Davis and Crawford are the two best in the sport when it comes to how they initiate their attacks.”
The 29-year-old Davis may face current IBF Lightweight Champion and three-division world titlist Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) in a unification bout this November. The 36-year-old Lomachenko is past his prime, and the scales seem to be tipping in favor of Davis.
