Recently, former four-time world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29 KOs) advised the media that if Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) aims to avenge his loss against Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) in their rematch, he must rely more on his jabs to control the Ukrainian.
Holyfield stated, “Tyson Fury has to throw more jabs. If he wants to get revenge on Usyk, sometimes he might even need to use jab-one-two combinations. And when he clinches Usyk, it actually works against him because holding your opponent gives them time to rest and opens you up for counter-punches.”
The highly anticipated Fury-Usyk rematch is now scheduled for December 21st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fury’s increased focus on jabs could lead to greater energy expenditure, and with Usyk’s quick footwork and evasiveness, Fury risks being countered or caught off-balance with missed jabs.
