Recently, former WBO featherweight champion Barry McGuigan (32-3, 28 KOs), of Ireland, shared his thoughts on the upcoming rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, scheduled for December 21, marking the last major bout of 2024.
Barry McGuigan said, “Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) is just too good for Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs). Fury was almost knocked out in the first fight, and I don’t see how he can improve for the second. For boxing, Fury is a great fighter, he talks a big game and knows how to generate hype, but I think his time as a top professional boxer might be over, perhaps due to a lack of discipline. Maybe I’m wrong, but Usyk is a different caliber. He’s now the undisputed heavyweight world champion, having clearly defeated Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) twice and then Fury. I expect the rematch to resemble the first encounter.”
The odds for the rematch currently stand at 1-2 in favor of Usyk, though the margin isn’t significant. In their first bout, Fury had the upper hand from rounds 3 to 7, but he narrowly avoided being knocked down in round 9.
