Recently, former WBA Super/IBF/WBO heavyweight champion “Dr. Steelhammer” Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) told the media that the hardest puncher he encountered in his career was Corrie Sanders (42-4, 30 KOs), also known as “The South African Cop.”
Klitschko said, “Sanders had incredible speed, especially with his punches. In my 25 years as a professional boxer, I never fought anyone who threw punches as viciously as he did.”
In 2003, Klitschko was knocked out by Sanders in just two rounds, marking an end to his five successful defenses of the WBO heavyweight world title. The defeat took a toll on Klitschko for a period.
Sanders tragically passed away on September 22, 2012, at the age of 46, after being shot in the hand and abdomen during a family celebration at a restaurant in South Africa.
