Recently, American boxing coach Teddy Atlas expressed to the media that, despite the fact that current IBF lightweight champion and three-division world titlist Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) is past his prime, he still anticipates a unification bout between Lomachenko and Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs).
Teddy Atlas said, “Davis’s style is exhilarating. Lomachenko’s style was exhilarating in previous years. The only issue is their age difference — Davis is 29, while Lomachenko is already 36. I wished they had fought four years ago, but you can’t turn back time. Now, the fight between Davis and Lomachenko might happen, albeit a bit late. A few years ago, it was one of my most anticipated matchups, and while I’m still interested, the anticipation isn’t as high as it once was.”
Davis knocked out Francisco Fonseca (18-1, 12 KOs) in eight rounds earlier this month, while Lomachenko secured a crucial victory by stopping Kambosos Jr. (21-3, 10 KOs) in 11 rounds in May. If all goes well, the two are expected to clash in November.
