Recently, current WBA Super/IBO light heavyweight champion Russian Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) told the media that he knows how to defeat unified WBC/IBF/WBO light heavyweight titleholder Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs), and he will be intensifying his training for it.
Bivol said, “Of course, I’ll strengthen my training this time. I know how to prepare and how to beat Beterbiev. In my fight against him, technique will play a decisive role, along with speed, movement, psychology, and endurance – every aspect is crucial.”
Regarding whether he would encourage his two sons to pursue boxing, Bivol commented, “If my sons were to say they want to box, how would I react? I’d be nervous. My older son is currently learning hockey, and my younger son is studying judo. Those sports are also dangerous. Every time I see people taking punches in sparring, it breaks my heart. If I saw my sons getting hit a lot in sparring, I’d feel sad too. Of course, I’d like them to try boxing.”
The 33-year-old Bivol is set to face Beterbiev on October 12, which is one of the year’s most significant fights. Bivol recently stopped Maliek Khadir Zindani (22-1, 16 KOs) in the sixth round on June 2nd.
