Bohachuk: Fendora is an Unusual Boxer

Recently, current WBC Super-Welterweight Interim Champion Serhiy Bohachuk of Ukraine (24-1, 23 KOs) told the media that current WBC/WBO Super-Welterweight Champion “The Pole” Sebastian Fendora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) is an unusual boxer. Despite having absolute advantages in height and reach, he likes to engage in close combat with shorter boxers and excels in close-range fighting.

Serhiy Bohachuk said: “What surprises me is that Fendora is an unusual boxer. His sparring partners and opponents are also surprised by this. It’s one thing to watch your opponent before the fight, but it’s another when you step into the ring. Many things people don’t understand, like how a boxer of Fendora’s size fights like he does. He’s not only tough but sometimes has devastating power punches. In short, Fendora is very different and incredibly strong. People say that sometimes appearances can be deceiving, and indeed, Fendora doesn’t intentionally cut weight. He eats and drinks normally, whether it’s because of his strong metabolism or whatever he eats, you feel uncomfortable facing him in the ring. When facing taller boxers, you’re used to getting inside for close combat, but he’ll immediately counterpunch. He’s taller than you, and sometimes you don’t know where to start.”

The 26-year-old Fendora controversially outpointed Tim Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) over 12 rounds at the end of March this year, becoming a dual champion at 154 pounds. In that bout, Fendora changed his previous style, focusing on jabs. Although his technique wasn’t the most refined, he was certainly improving. Fendora also realized that with his absolute advantages in height and reach, he should make full use of them.
