Former Middleweight Champion “Golden Boy” Jacobs Announces Retirement

Today, former two-time middleweight world champion American “Golden Boy” Daniel Jacobs (37-5, 30 KOs) announced his decision to retire from boxing in a post on social media.

Jacobs wrote: “I am announcing my official retirement. I am profoundly grateful to the sport of boxing, which has transformed my life in ways I could never have imagined. From boxing, I learned lessons that could not be acquired elsewhere. It was boxing that made me who I am today. I always dreamed of being a winner in life, and when I first started boxing as a child living in Brooklyn, New York, I had little hope for my future. As a black child, I felt insignificant in life from an early age, and with high crime rates in my neighborhood, my prospects were bleak, with many around me either being gunned down or ending up in jail.”

Jacobs continued: “Over the years, I’ve experienced ups and downs both inside and outside the ring, becoming a two-time middleweight world champion. I can say with confidence that I am the first person to overcome cancer and win a world title belt, which stands as the most glorious achievement of my life. To be able to inspire others to follow in my footsteps and find value in their lives is more meaningful than any battle I’ve fought in the ring.”

At 37 years old, Jacobs achieved an impressive record in professional boxing with 37 wins, 5 losses, and 30 knockouts, defeating notable opponents like Peter Quillin and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. His losses to Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez were close fights.
