Recently, former four-time super-middleweight world champion British “Cobra” Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) told the media that although he previously favored Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) to defeat Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs), he now believes Fury is no match for Joshua.
Carl Froch said, “I always thought Fury could beat Joshua. I felt Fury’s speed was too much for Joshua, his movement was more agile, and he had greater natural talent. Fury started boxing at a younger age, he has the ability to control the ring, the distance, timing, head movement, feints – things you can’t teach. When you get close to Fury, he’ll hold you. But Fury can’t just focus on offense against Joshua. Joshua is a two-time world champion and a former Olympic gold medalist.”
Froch continued, “Both have lost to Usyk, but Fury performed slightly better. Though Usyk almost knocked out Fury in round nine, he did the same to Joshua. Joshua is now on a 3-4 fight winning streak, regaining momentum and confidence. He’s a professional athlete, like a machine, taking boxing very seriously. The most important aspect in boxing is rhythm. Last week, Fury was seen heavily intoxicated, but top fighters don’t drink during camp. Considering their current states, Joshua should be able to knock out Fury, but it will still be an entertaining fight.”
Fury is set to rematch Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) on December 21, with a Joshua clash scheduled for 2025 regardless of the outcome.
