Garcia Discusses Benavidez's Future at 175 Pounds

Recently, Mexican-American boxing trainer Robert Garcia shared his thoughts with the media, stating that David Benavídez (29-0, 24 KOs) would be best staying at super middleweight, as moving up to light heavyweight carries significant risks.

Robert Garcia said, “Can David Benavídez compete at 175 pounds? I believe he can, but it won’t be easy. At 168 pounds, he’s a beast, but at 175, he wouldn’t be the same dominant force. However, I predict he could still win big fights there. I think Benavídez has the ability to beat Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) or Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs), but it would be a tough challenge. Personally, I prefer him to stay at 168 pounds for his contests.”

David Benavídez is now planning to return to the super middleweight division in pursuit of the WBC world championship belt. Both Bivol and Beterbiev are not only top light heavyweights but also among the best fighters in the sport today. While Benavídez possesses power and skills, it remains to be seen whether he can dethrone either of these two fighters.
