Joshua: I Don't Want My Son to Box Anymore

Recently, former WBA Super/IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champion and British boxing legend Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KO) told the media that he doesn’t wish his son to follow in his footsteps as a professional boxer, considering the immense physical demands of the sport.

“I believe my son shouldn’t take up boxing like me. If I had the choice, I’d suggest he become a senior accountant – he has a knack for numbers. He could also be an entrepreneur, making smart investments. My hope is for him to venture into business. Boxing is tough and dangerous; he can do whatever he wants, but let’s not have him replicate my career path. To become a boxing star, one endures a lot of pain and struggle,” Joshua said.

At 34 years old, Joshua secured a 2-round KO victory over former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou (17-3, 12 KOs, 4 S) in March. Following back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KO), Joshua has now won four consecutive fights, with his recent performances under new coach Ben Davies particularly noteworthy.

Joshua has already penciled in his next bout, although an official announcement has yet to be made. It’s expected to take place on September 21 at the Wembley Stadium against interim IBF Heavyweight Champion Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KO).
