Former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) recently told the media that Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), despite his unassuming appearance, is a formidable and challenging opponent.
Joshua said, “I don’t comment on Daniel Dubois’ (21-2, 20 KOs) persona, but he performed well in sparring with me. He’s an excellent boxer, very talented, and knows how to work in the ring. I believe he has huge potential. Then you look at Usyk – he might not stand out visually, but he’s incredibly difficult to fight and possesses immense strength. Tyson Fury might be great at grabbing attention, but that’s not my focus.”
Joshua has already agreed to face Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) in either the first or second quarter of next year, regardless of whether Fury avenges his loss to Usyk in their potential rematch. First, Joshua must challenge IBF heavyweight champion Dubois on September 21. If successful, he will become a three-time world heavyweight titlist.
