Former three-time world heavyweight champion, British boxer Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs), has recently stated to the media that he might face current IBF interim heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) in a highly anticipated bout at Wembley Stadium in September. However, he hasn’t ruled out a match against Zhang Zhilei (27-2-1, 22 KOs). Today, Joshua was in attendance to witness Zhang and Dubois in action.
“I have to take them one at a time,” Joshua said. “It’s not easy, but I’m willing to fight both Dubois and Zhang. Wembley Arena, O2 Arena, York Hall – wherever they put me, I’m ready. Dubois has had tougher fights and has been growing stronger. He’s on the rise, so we’ll see what’s next for him.”
Commenting on Deontay Wilder’s fifth-round defeat, Joshua remarked, “He can come back, but he has a family, and there’s more to life than boxing. I enjoy fighting in London, Saudi Arabia, and the U.S. Nobody can box forever, so while Wilder can give it another go, eventually, everyone ages. I wasn’t surprised by the brutal KO; that’s just how it goes sometimes.”
The likelihood of Joshua choosing Dubois for September is significant, as both boxers are British, which would likely attract a strong fan base. However, for Zhang Zhilei, due to commercial considerations, securing a showdown with Joshua might be challenging. A rematch with Joseph Parker seems more realistic.
