According to the latest media reports, current WBC/WBA Super/IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs), known as the “Monster” from Japan, has reached an agreement with former IBF super bantamweight champion Irishman TJ Doheny (26-4, 20 KOs). The two will face off at the Ariake Arena in Japan on September 3 this year.
The 37-year-old TJ Doheny currently has a professional record of 26 wins and 4 losses, with 20 wins by KO. He is now ranked 14th in the BOXREC-122 pound comprehensive ranking. TJ Doheny stands at 1.66 meters tall with a reach of 1.73 meters. In August 2018, he traveled to Japan to defeat Ryosuke Iwasa over 12 rounds by decision, capturing the IBF 122-pound world title. In 2019, he TKO’d Japanese boxer Takashi Koshimoto in the 11th round, successfully defending his title once. In his last three fights, TJ Doheny has won consecutively, all of which were fought in Japan.
The 31-year-old Naoya Inoue, currently the second-ranked top king in The Ring magazine’s P4P rankings, behind Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), stands at 1.65 meters tall with a reach of 1.71 meters. On May 6, he TKO’d Luis Nery in the sixth round. After this title defense, Naoya Inoue may continue to move up to 126 pounds in 2025.
