Former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) recently shared with the media that, despite David Benavídez’s (29-0, 24 KOs) impressive power, he personally feels that Canelo Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) packs a harder punch. Plant was knocked out by Álvarez in the eleventh round in 2021 and lost a points decision to Benavídez in 2023, giving him firsthand experience with both fighters.
“I think Canelo has a harder punch than David Benavídez,” said Caleb Plant. “I’m not taking anything away from David, but in that aspect, Canelo is stronger. But David is bigger than Canelo, his combinations are more fluid, and it’s only when the bell rings and they start fighting that you’ll know what’s going to happen. Both boxers are exceptional, and it’s tough to predict who would come out on top. I’m eagerly anticipating this potential showdown.”
Álvarez currently has no intention of accepting Benavídez’s mandatory challenge and is even willing to vacate his WBC super-middleweight title belt. Instead, he has decided to face Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), with Saudi Arabian promoter Turki Alalshikh offering substantial funds for the contest.
