After their elimination from the BLAST Premier Spring Finals, Vitality’s in-game leader apEX granted an interview with foreign media.
This year, apEX and his teammates have been pushing for a championship, but following Emil Reif | Magisk’s departure, they faced a disappointing stretch without any major titles despite some victories. Reflecting on their London performance, apEX expressed regret for his British fans after a promising start ended poorly.
“We faltered in mid-game decisions,” he said. “It was a decent experience, but the outcome in London wasn’t as expected. We had the game within our grasp, but crucial moments slipped away. Our mid-game execution was terrible, and we made poor choices based on limited information. We were too cautious, so I tried to encourage more aggression and teamwork. Without that, it becomes extremely tough. That’s how it played out today.”
He emphasized the need for consistent team performance: “Certainly, there are times when individual players shine, but others hit a dip. To win now, we need at least two top-performing players consistently. Mathieu Herbaut | ZywOo and Lotan Giladi | Spinx didn’t meet their usual standards. My own play was decent but not exceptional. The other two did well, but individually, it’s not enough. We must learn from these experiences as a team.”
The lack of training time was also mentioned: “We lacked time to train and refine our tactics. Our offensive side is strong, but defensively, we’re lacking. Tensions rise towards the end of the season, and fatigue sets in, making it hard to stay focused. With limited time between events, it’s challenging to innovate and execute flawlessly. That’s the situation we’re in right now.”
To improve, apEX shared his plans: “I’m going on vacation to Korea, which should be refreshing. I need a break, and while I gave my all this semester, we didn’t secure a title. Let’s leave it at that for now.” He also highlighted the importance of rest and regrouping: “Rest is key. We have weeks to reflect and address our weaknesses. Even though our defense struggled, like in Anubis, we’ve made progress. More intense training will help us see if things change for the better.”
In a digression about football, he discussed the future: “Predicting the future of football is difficult, but Mbappe seems set to ascend. Players like Haaland, Bellingham, Vinicius, and Wirtz have potential too. As for Haaland, he scores goals, but I don’t particularly like him. Despite the community’s view, I don’t agree with him winning last year’s Ballon d’Or. I hope French teams do better in the Champions League; it’s been a while since a French club won it. Beating the English would be fantastic.”
