G2 Esports has officially announced that Snax will join as the fifth member, reuniting the former Virtus.pro teammates Snax and TaZ after their 2018 split. What many might not know is that the two had a long-standing rift due to the Mercedes-Benz incident.
In early 2018, TaZ was benched from VP. According to insiders, Snax was one of the main voices against this decision, harboring resentment over TaZ’s handling of the Mercedes situation.
As per Jarosław “pashaBiceps” Jarząbkowski’s account in an interview, in 2017, the VP’s top management promised on Twitter that if the team won DreamHack Masters Las Vegas, one player would receive a Mercedes. TaZ, known for his antics, fueled the competition with his comments, leading the team to victory and defeating SK Gaming 2-1 in the final. Eventually, the team was rewarded with a Mercedes GLE SUV, but it was only for TaZ, not every player.
TaZ himself mentioned the Mercedes incident later, claiming it ruined his 23-year-long career.
Now, with the past behind them, Snax and TaZ have reconciled, and we can look forward to seeing how far they can lead this new G2 lineup.
