Shortcomings of the Star Dust Update

I recently stumbled upon an update for Star Dust, a significant one judging by its size. With skepticism, I delved into the online discourse and found that the developers had been silent for months before rolling out these optimizations. The reviews were quite positive, a stark contrast to before, so I decided to dive back in.

Upon entering the game, a new feature greeted me – a promotional video (PV) showcasing the characters. PVs typically preview character appearances, abilities, and introduce story backgrounds. In the initial release, I felt that something was missing in Star Dust; the background was somewhat nebulous. This PV enlightened me, and I appreciated the improvement.

Shortcomings of the Star Dust Update

As gameplay resumed, more enhancements became apparent. The graphics were now crisp, allowing for a better appreciation of Alrindor’s landscapes. High-quality visuals were now an option, offering a vastly different experience. Character faces, attire, and animations also saw improvements, significantly boosting the visual appeal. Additionally, the combat system had been streamlined, making battles against wild creatures less challenging.

Rediscovering the world of Star Dust, I felt that my investment was well worth it. However, a nagging feeling persisted. A comment on a short video clip pointed out the overlooked issue – “The writing, the most crucial aspect, remains unchanged!” Indeed, this update didn’t address the game’s writing, which seems to have been overlooked.

Star Dust’s writing does have some minor issues, likely resulting from direct translations that lead to awkward phrasing and unclear logic. Conversations can be perplexing, with occasional enigmatic dialogue. At first glance, the writing might appear profound, but upon closer inspection, the incomprehensibility hints at underlying problems. It’s no wonder previous versions received criticism for their cryptic scripting. Some players even attempted to use AI to refine the game’s text, to no avail. Clearly, the writing deserves an update, but it was missed in this major patch.

Shortcomings of the Star Dust Update

The decision to not touch the writing in this update may stem from the complexity of the task. While the original dialogues and narration don’t contain glaring errors, they can sound peculiar due to subtle logic and syntax issues. Addressing all these would require considerable time. Additionally, updating the writing would entail revoicing and editing, adding to the workload. Perhaps the developers are working on it and will address the writing in a future update.

In conclusion, the importance of game writing is undeniable, and its absence from this update is a noticeable shortcoming. It’s hoped that the developers will heed the community’s feedback and improve the writing soon.
