According to information from a reporter of the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Zirkzee was absent from today’s training session due to illness, casting doubt on his availability for the team’s upcoming match. For Austria, Trauner will also miss the third group stage game because of an injury.
The journalist revealed that this morning at the Netherlands national team’s training ground in Wolfsburg, there was a notable absentee: Joshua Zirkzee didn’t take part in the team’s training session, due to sickness. It remains to be seen whether he will travel with the squad to Berlin. The Dutch team is scheduled to depart for the German capital later today, where they will face Austria in their final group match tomorrow.
Austria too is dealing with a player loss. Feyenoord defender Trauner will not feature in the last group fixture. The player sustained an injury during Austria’s 3-1 victory over Poland and has not recovered in time. Trauner scored the opening goal with a header before being substituted by Kevin Danso after an hour of play. Complicating matters further, if Austria advances to the Round of 16, Trauner might not return in time for the quarterfinal match.
