At midnight on June 23rd (local time), the second round of Group F in the European Championship will see Turkey face Portugal. Portuguese forward Leão attended the pre-match press conference and spoke about the player he believes will be the most challenging opponent, Çalhanoğlu.
Leão said, “This is an important match against a very good team. We can’t give them too much space. I think Çalhanoğlu will play a crucial role in the game. I know him well, we’re club teammates, and he has great technique. Yilmaz is very fast too, both of them can make a significant impact on their team.”
“I believe this will be a completely different game from the one against the Czech Republic, but we’ll fight for the win. Regardless, we have many strong young players, and our team is very powerful.”
Reflecting on the previous match, Leão commented, “I think I played well in the first half. In the second half, I wasn’t at my best. My teammates brought a lot of energy, and I don’t know if I’ll have a great performance against Turkey, but I’m ready to step onto the pitch.”
After the first round, Portugal defeated the Czech Republic, and Turkey beat Georgia, both teams currently sitting on three points each.
