Recently, Liu Guoliang, the head of the Chinese Table Tennis Association, stated in an interview that it should not be assumed that the Chinese table tennis team will secure all five gold medals at the upcoming Olympics.
Liu commented, “The team is now in the final sprint phase. The last stage is crucial. It’s impossible to perfect every aspect of our preparation, but we can refine our key strategies and improve our scoring techniques, as well as address our weaknesses that opponents might exploit.”
“Knowing how to play and knowing how to win are two different things. We aim to be a team that excels in major tournaments and Olympic competitions.”
“On the court, luck and hesitation, the mindset of wanting to win but fearing to lose, are the root causes of failure. It’s better to be decisively wrong than hesitant in making the right move, because conviction reflects your understanding, and if you’re world number one, your comprehension won’t be lacking. Hesitation suggests self-doubt.”
“We cannot assume that these five gold medals belong to China. They are there for the brave and the wise to claim. Only those who perform at their best deserve them. We need to adopt a humble attitude and strive for victory, not just defend what we have.”
