According to today’s report by British newspaper The Sun, former Dutch top-flight club Vitesse is in dire straits, with the threat of license revocation looming.
Last season, Vitesse suffered relegation after having 18 points deducted. In the new season, they were set to compete in the Eerste Divisie (Dutch second tier). However, recent allegations suggest that the club provided false information during the submission of documents. Local media outlets claim that Vitesse’s restructuring plan might be rejected. It’s reported that the club could lose its license and face bankruptcy due to the lack of a bank account or an accountant.
Moreover, club officials believed they were prepared for a takeover but failed to reach an agreement with the club’s largest creditor, Pari. Last month, the club launched a crowdfunding campaign, with several players contributing donations in hopes of a miraculous recovery. Nevertheless, the funds raised fall significantly short.
Vitesse has a history of 35 seasons in the Eredivisie and previously signed Mason Mount, which led them to qualify for the Europa League that year.
