In the May fixtures of the 2024 Huarun Yibao Chinese Super League (CSL), Shanghai Haigang achieved an impressive record of five consecutive victories. During these matches, Haigang scored 22 goals, with national team player Wu Lei netting six goals and providing two assists. In the 11th round, a 5-2 home win over Changchun Yatai, and the 12th round, a 5-3 away triumph against Qingdao West Coast, Wu Lei scored twice in each game. He currently leads the scoring charts with 16 goals.
In the May Player of the Month voting, Wu Lei secured seven first-place votes from the media panel, amassing 58 points to finish top. Although trailing Wei Shihao of Chengdu Rongcheng and Konpagnon of Tianjin Jinmen Tiger in the fan voting, Wu Lei ultimately claimed the title of May’s CSL Player of the Month with a total score of 80 points, marking his third consecutive monthly award.
