On June 22, English international Declan Rice attributed the team’s underwhelming performance to the immense pressure on the entire squad.
Rice, in an interview, said, “Every single one of us is desperate to bring honor to English football. We all want to win, to lift trophies, to create great memories for the fans, but I think we’ve put too much pressure on ourselves. We know we should be better with possession, we know there are areas for improvement – in a way, that’s a positive mindset.”
Rice continued, discussing how the England team should handle the pressure: “Look at the stats of our top four forwards this season, they scored over 100 goals combined. It’s natural for fans to have expectations when you’re among the world’s best players. Playing for England in major tournaments always comes with pressure, but that’s part of our job and something we need to deal with effectively.”
