On June 21, according to German newspaper Bild, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has set his sights on Inter Milan’s Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu following difficulties in signing Fulham’s Palhinha.
Since taking over, Kompany’s priority has been to strengthen the midfield as a way to start a new era. Bild reports that the manager sees Calhanoglu as a suitable addition to the squad. This news was promptly picked up by Turkish media and later confirmed by Italian newspapers Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport.
Calhanoglu’s contract with Inter runs until 2027, which is expected to give the Italian club an advantage in negotiations. Bayern’s previous attempt to reinforce their midfield suffered a setback when Fulham rejected a €40 million offer for Palhinha.
Currently, Calhanoglu is on Bayern’s radar. However, the Turkish international, who scored 13 goals and provided 3 assists last season, is currently focused on Euro duties, suggesting talks might only commence after the tournament concludes.
