England winger Saka, currently preparing for the Euros round of 16, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with talksport. Saka appeared relaxed as he discussed the team’s mood and his own feelings.
About the atmosphere within the England camp
“Of course, there’s pressure from the outside, but internally, we’re feeling really good right now. We aimed to top our group, and we did that. Now we’re focused on the knockout stages and looking forward to it.”
On the pressure as one of the favorites
“I’d say playing football is about joy, it’s a happiness. When I’m out there, all the negativity disappears, and I’m just enjoying the game. I’m free to dribble, pass, shoot – I just love football.”
On Southgate
“He’s always had faith in me, given me chances in big matches, and I’m very grateful. I think many players feel the same. Right now, our focus is on winning the next game.”
“We should have full trust in Southgate, leave the decisions to him, believe in him and the team,” he said when asked about potential position changes, adding, “I feel more comfortable on the right, that’s where I think I play my best football.”
On his teammates
“Most wingers find Kyle Walker a huge challenge, but now he’s playing behind me, and having someone so strong in the squad gives me confidence. I can attack more freely.”
“Moura is very mature. From day one in training, we saw his talent and quality. He’s shown himself against Slovenia too. We want to see him keep progressing.”
