Swiss goalkeeper Sommer revealed that the Swiss team has been practicing penalties in training.
“During the Euros, I spoke with my children several times, but we stopped meeting before matches as I focused on the task at hand,” Sommer told reporters with a smile.
“We’ve taken penalties in training and made some records, but it’s entirely different taking them under pressure in a match,” Sommer admitted. “Frankly, I don’t want a penalty shootout; I hope we can win before that because penalties are a game of chances.”
Switzerland is set to face the defending champions Italy in the round of 16, and their goalkeeper Donnarumma is also a deity between the posts. He secured Italy’s victory over England in the penalty shootout in the last Euro final. If the match between Switzerland and Italy goes to penalties, a thrilling shootout is on the cards.
