On June 29th, England winger Saka spoke to the BBC about his position within the team.
The English squad has had an underwhelming performance in the tournament. Trippier, the right-back, was deployed as a left-back against Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia, but his availability for the match against Slovakia after missing Friday’s training is uncertain.
With Luke Shaw still injured, Saka, the Arsenal winger, might be asked to fill in at left-back. The prospect does not seem to please him.
“Playing me at left-back? It just wouldn’t work, I don’t think that’s a solution. But ultimately, it’s not my decision – it’s Southgate’s call, and we have to trust his team selections.”
