MLS Preview: LAFC Unbeaten, Colorado Rapids at a Historical Disadvantage

MLS Preview: LAFC Unbeaten, Colorado Rapids at a Historical Disadvantage

On June 30 at 10:30 AM, the MLS will feature a showdown when LAFC hosts the visiting Colorado Rapids at BMO Stadium.

LAFC has been in scorching form recently, routing San Jose Earthquakes 6-2 with contributions from Bouanga, Kamara, Hollingshead, Ángel, and the in-form Pogba, who scored a brace. The team has an impressive record of nine wins and one draw in their last ten matches, advancing to the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup, showcasing their strength.

Since their 1-3 loss to San Jose Earthquakes in early May, LAFC has embarked on a goal-scoring spree, scoring 25 goals, making them the third-highest scoring team in the league. With an 11-4-4 record in 19 matches, they are tied at the top of the Western Conference with Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy, amassing 37 points.

Meanwhile, the Colorado Rapids secured a 4-1 victory over CF Montreal, extending their good run of form. Mihaelovik, Navarro, and Harris all found the back of the net, securing a third consecutive win. This brings their league victories this season to nine.

The Rapids have not only been potent in attack, scoring nine goals in their last three games, but also solid in defense, keeping two clean sheets. Prior to this, they managed only one point in four matches.

This strong stretch has propelled them to fourth place in the West, with 31 points from 20 matches, two points ahead of Minnesota United.

However, history is against the Rapids as they have lost all five of their previous away fixtures against LAFC since 2018, scoring just two goals while conceding 14. Their away record against LAFC is far from encouraging.

On the injury front, LAFC will be without Giroud due to Euro commitments, Oliveira because of the Copa América, plus Mueller, Del Valle, and Cherundolo are injured. Nevertheless, Pogba stands out, contributing to 13 goals (in 19 matches), providing a reliable source of offense for the team.

Colorado Rapids will miss Travis and Chacon through injuries, as well as Bompigto, who is participating in the Copa América.

Considering LAFC’s dominant home performances and their recent unbeaten streak, coupled with Colorado Rapids’ less favorable away record, this fixture leans towards LAFC claiming all three points at home, further solidifying their position at the top of the MLS standings.
