Chelsea currently finds itself with an excessively crowded squad. Following Monday’s announcement of the signing of Marc Gué from Barcelona via a buyout clause, Chelsea officially confirmed the acquisition of Leicester City midfielder Keiran Hall on Tuesday.
According to data from the specialized transfer market website, Chelsea now boasts a roster of 41 players.
The Blues’ attacking line is currently composed of 11 players, including Sterling, Mudrik, Diogo Moreira, Madueke, Angelo, Jackson, Lukaku, Broja, Fofana, Washington, and the newly arrived Marc Gué. Amidst uncertainty over potential departures, competition for places in the frontline is set to be intense.
New head coach Enzo Maresca, who hails from Leicester City, is tasked with reshaping the squad with the aim of returning Chelsea to its winning ways after a three-year trophy drought. The club’s last title triumph was in the 2021 UEFA Super Cup, defeating Villarreal on penalties in Belfast.
Mark Gué will need to seize his opportunity during pre-season to secure a spot in the starting eleven. Otherwise, the forward, who made his first-team debut for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao on October 22, 2023 (a 1-0 win where he scored the only goal), could be loaned out.
Chelsea’s first preseason match for the 2024-25 campaign is against Wrexham on July 25, followed by a clash with Celtic on July 27. In August, the team heads to the USA for a tour, facing Club América (August 1), Manchester City (August 3), and Real Madrid (August 7). The Blues will open their 2024-25 Premier League season against defending champions Manchester City on August 18.
