On June 30, Belgian international Youri Tielemans gave a pre-match interview.
What are the positives and negatives from the group stage?
“There were more positives. We qualified for the knockout rounds, which is crucial. Another positive was our performance against Romania. In the other matches, we were solid defensively, and I think we can still improve.”
Can you talk about your goal against Romania?
“It was nice. After a successful high press, we transitioned quickly into attack, and my teammates set it up beautifully. All I had to do was hit the shot from outside the box to break the deadlock.”
Does Belgium have the ability to score more goals?
“We’re dangerous in the box, and if we can improve our final pass and finishing from outside the area, we’ll score even more. I believe we will step it up in that regard.”
What are France’s strengths?
“They have many strengths. They play intelligently and know how to win. They didn’t produce their best football in the group stage, but they still progressed successfully.”
What about Kanté?
“Kanté is outstanding. We know his qualities – he’s everywhere, pressing, intercepting, filling spaces. We have to be aware of him; he’s a key figure in their team.”
Are you ready for the knockout phase?
“Yes, we’re focused and motivated. As long as our mindset is right, I don’t see any issues with our fitness.”
