So far in this Euro tournament, Cristiano Ronaldo has attempted 20 shots, with 8 on target, but has yet to find the back of the net. According to foreign media statistics, since 1980, Ronaldo is the fifth player to have at least 20 shots in the Euros without scoring a goal.
The current record holder is Ronaldo’s Portuguese teammate Deco, who had 24 shots in the 2004 Euros without scoring. Despite this, Deco played a key role in helping Portugal reach the final, where they lost 0-1 to Greece and finished as runners-up.
Aside from Deco, well-known players Kevin De Bruyne and Dani Olmo also share this record, both having taken 21 shots without scoring in the 2016 and 2020 Euros, respectively.
In the quarterfinals, Portugal will face France, and Ronaldo would need just four more shots to equal his former national team mate’s record. However, both he and Portuguese fans are hoping this won’t come to pass.
