British media: Manchester United have not received a request to call up Garnacho for the Olympics, player set to return to club after Copa America

Manchester United winger Garnacho is currently with the Argentina national team in the United States for the Copa America, according to the Manchester Evening News. The Argentine Football Association has not contacted Manchester United to request Garnacho’s participation in the Paris Olympics. The player is expected to return to Manchester United for pre-season preparations following his Copa America duties.

The 20-year-old made his senior international debut in Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Peru last week. As an eligible player for the Paris Olympics, Garnacho was not included in coach Mascherano’s 18-player plus four standby list for the tournament. There were reports from Argentina suggesting that Manchester United blocked Garnacho’s Olympic participation, but according to the Manchester Evening News, the club has not received any request from the Argentine FA regarding Garnacho’s involvement in the Paris Games. Consequently, Garnacho will rejoin Manchester United after the Copa America concludes to prepare for the 2024/25 season.

Nurtured through Manchester United’s youth ranks, Garnacho has become an important player under Ten Hag, scoring 10 goals in 50 appearances for the club during the 2023/24 season and holding a record of 39 consecutive starts. Due to his Copa America commitment, Garnacho will miss United’s three pre-season friendlies in the US but could feature in the Community Shield match against Manchester City on August 10. Manchester United players are due to report next week, with those not involved in the Euros or Copa America commencing pre-season training on Monday.
