Official: Former Ajax Coach Heitinga Appointed as Liverpool Assistant Manager

On July 18, Liverpool Football Club officially announced that former Everton player and former Ajax head coach Heitinga will join Slot’s coaching staff as an assistant manager for the first team.

The 40-year-old former Dutch international Heitinga came through the ranks at Ajax, having played for clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Everton, and Hertha Berlin during his career. After retiring from playing at Ajax in 2016, he moved into coaching, serving as head coach for Ajax U18 and U21 teams, and was the head coach of the Ajax first team from January to June 2023. Last season, Heitinga served as assistant coach on the coaching staff of Premier League side West Ham United.

Now, Heitinga has been invited to join Liverpool’s coaching team, where he will support new Reds manager Slot in the upcoming Premier League season.

Prior to this, four new members had already joined the Liverpool coaching staff, including chief assistant coach Hulshoff, chief fitness trainer Ruben Peters, first-team goalkeeping coach Fabian Otte, and assistant coach and analyst Briggs.
