According to Austrian media outlet Heute, Real Madrid star David Alaba’s injury recovery is progressing slower than anticipated, and he might not make his official comeback until 2025.
Alaba suffered a severe left knee anterior cruciate ligament tear in mid-December last year, which has kept him out of action ever since. For this year’s European Championship, he joined Austria as a member of the coaching staff.
The report from Heute indicates that Alaba, who has been sidelined for over 200 days due to injury, still faces mobility issues such as being unable to climb stairs normally or start running training. His current recovery progress resembles that typically seen around 100 to 120 days post-anterior cruciate ligament injury, clearly slower than expected.
It has also been reported that Alaba’s injury included damage to the knee cartilage, which may explain the slow recovery pace.
Another Austrian media outlet, Die Presse, points out that given the current situation, Alaba’s most likely return time could be postponed until 2025. Among the three Real Madrid players who suffered anterior cruciate ligament tears last season, Alaba’s case is the most severe.
